Let’s Celebrate the Holidays With Less Plastic; For Our World and For Our Health

Plastic has quickly become a buzz word within the last decade. It continually makes up a majority of the products we purchase in stores and online. The truth is, plastic is not only harming our earth, but harming our health.

There are chemicals involved in plastic production that are negatively affecting our overall health and well-being. According to the Ecology Center, “People are exposed to these chemicals not only during manufacturing, but also by using plastic packages, because some chemicals migrate from the plastic packaging to the foods they contain”.  These chemicals can cause cancer, brain developmental issues, and carcinogen exposure. Although plastic has been a buzz word for the sake of environmental consciousness, it also needs to be sought after within the context of our health.

So, let’s put our health first this holiday season by swapping out our plastic products and gifts for more sustainable and safe options.

Here Are Some Healthy Guidelines When It Comes to Plastic:

  1. Buy food in glass or metal container
  2. Avoid heating food in plastic containers, or storing fatty foods in plastic containers or plastic wrap
  3. Do not give young children plastic teething toys
  4. Use natural fiber clothing, bedding and furniture
  5. Avoid all PVC and Styrene products

We know that it can be overwhelming to find alternatives to plastic or to avoid it all together. But as always, start small and start right where you are. If you need some plastic replacement options for holiday gifts and meal prep, we have you covered right here at Well Earth Goods
